Lucy Ioannou is a Makeup Artist based in Hertfordshire, UK, who specialises in Special Makeup Effects & Prosthetics.

Lucy originally trained as an actor at Fourth Monkey Drama School, London. After graduating she went on to work for the award-winning, London-based, Arrows & Traps Theatre Company. The spark for a career in makeup came from their 2018 production of ‘Dracula’ – the company did not have a resident Makeup Artist and so Lucy fully embraced the repertory company ethos and took on the challenge. She went on to become their resident Wigs, Hair & Makeup Artist, working on thirteen productions, two of which went on to win the 2022 Standing Ovation Award for ‘Best Production Values’. Through this she has had the opportunity to go on and work with multiple directors and photographers within the industry.

Her work is not limited only to the stage - she has worked on a range of TV and film productions, from artistic period pieces to feature-length films with Greek Goddess Drag Queens.

Whilst having plenty of experience working with period, modern, naturalistic and glam makeup, Lucy specializes in SFX and prosthetics application. As well as thinking up fantastically strange creatures she has a particular love for the grim and gory. Where most people may recoil at the more graphic scenes on screen, Lucy will watch in awe and analyse every bloody frame and how it was achieved. She is always playing with (fake) blood, and the biggest compliment she can get is when someone finds her work repulsive.

Most of what she knows has been learned through experience, research and working alongside/assisting other Makeup Artists. She is an incredibly hard and safe worker and will always deliver a brief to the best of her abilities, all the while prioritising the comfort and safety of her actors/models. She loves working as part of a team of like-minded creatives, who can all come together to bring their vision to life through the monitor or on the stage.
